In addition to the biennial Ryder Cup team competition (all Ryder Cup bets), the four major tournaments played in stroke play — including the British Open — are the most important events in golf.

Betting on the British Open

The Grand Slam in professional golf means winning all the major golf championships that are played each season in this order: the Masters, the U.S. Open Championship, the British Open and the U.S. PGA Championship (all bets on the U.S. PGA Championship).

The British Open is the only Major held outside of the United States, and it is the oldest surviving professional golf tournament. The Claret Jug and its rich history are sought after by all golfers and are frequently played in the birthplace of golf— which is why the British Open is one of the best golf tournaments in the world.

The British Open, also known simply as The Open, is one of the most prestigious tournaments on the PGA Tour and the European PGA Tour. Founded in 1860, it was originally held annually at Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland. It now rotates between several courses in Scotland, England, and Northern Ireland.

Recommended betting on the British Open

The British Open Major starts every year on the third Friday of July. It is one of the most unpredictable majors in terms of who wins. The challenge of the course - the coastal winds, the changes between sun and rain, and vice versa are quite intense.

Some iconic holes such as the Road Hole 17th at St. Andrews and the Postage Stamp at Royal Troon have made or broken the reputation of many golfers.

The winner of the British Open is usually an under double-digit par player. The most challenging golf course is Carnoustie, which since 1980 is a three-under par, with an average of only 15 players under par per championship.

Betting on the Men's British Open

The men's tournament is a 72-hole total competition over four rounds and lasts for more than four days, with 18 holes played each day. Rounds are played in groups of three golfers for the first two days and groups of two for the last two days. Make golf bets on our online sports betting platform.
