Basketball has a long tradition at FC Bayern: the country's most-successful football club opened its basketball division back in 1946. FC Bayern became German champions in 1954 and 1955 and in 1968, they won the DBB Cup. Following these successes, fans in the Bavarian capital had to endure decades in the second and third leagues without any title victories. With the turn of the millennium, though, fortunes began to change.
In the 2009/10 season, the members of the entire team decided to support the first team in their bid to return to the BBL. The new era was introduced by star trainer Dirk Bauermann, who had previously led Leverkusen to seven championships. Since the beginning of the 2011/12 season, FCB has been back on top form and made the leap into the playoffs at their first attempt. In 2014, the efforts finally payed off - FC Bayern celebrated their 3rd championship by beating ALBA Berlin in the Final series with 3:1. Only one year later the team reached the BBL final again. As partner from 2012 to 2015, bwin was one of the team's most-important supporters on their road to success.
